Practicalities of staying here
You will need a car. That is the first and most important thing to understand about renting in Altea Hills, and it surprises people who have rented in Altea town before. The urbanisation is steep and set back from the coast road, so the beach at five minutes and the old town at ten are both driving distances, not walks. Once you accept that, the position is excellent: Campomanes marina and its restaurants are close, Calpe and Benidorm are both within twenty minutes, and Alicante airport is under an hour. Supermarkets are down at the N-332. For a longer stay, check the heating arrangements rather than assuming — not every property on this coast is set up for a comfortable January.
How renting here usually works
Short-term holiday rentals require the property to hold a valid tourist licence, and you should expect to see it referenced. For longer contracts, the standard in Spain is a deposit of one or two months plus the first month in advance, with utilities usually paid by the tenant on top of the rent. Community fees are almost always the owner's responsibility, but confirm it in writing. If you are renting with a view to buying later, tell us — we can prioritise properties whose owners might consider a sale, which occasionally turns a rental into a purchase on better terms than either side expected.
